No one should be excluded because of their accent. I believe you should be judged based on what you say, not how you sound.
Why Accent Reduction Works for Non-Native Speakers
Think of this not as replacing your natural accent, but as adding a feature to your communication toolbox. It will reflect who you are in your native language more effectively into English language.
Accents can be modified, and many people can learn new speech patterns with proper training and practice. Actors do it all the time when preparing for a new role.
Our standard program spans 12 weekly sessions, providing a structured foundation for accent improvement.
The Science Behind Your Accent
Your accent is simply muscle memory. As you pick up your first language, your brain learns how to move your jaw, lips, and tongue to form sounds. These movements became so automated that you don’t even think about them.
English has its own unique movements, just like any other language. The problem is, your brain is defaulting to what it already knows – your first language’s muscle movements.
This is the same muscle memory that you use to walk, move, swim etc. but it’s located in your face.
The good news is – muscle memory can be retrained at any age with the right approach.
The 3 Steps That Make All the Difference
1
Schedule a FREE Consultation
We’ll analyze your speech patterns to identify which of the 44 sounds in English are affecting your communication. Most students I work with focus on 10–12 core sounds, enough to noticeably improve clarity.
2
Personalizing the Plan
Your plan will prioritize the specific sounds that may help you progress more efficiently – so that you can be confident in any situation.
3
Become a Confident Speaker!
Your goal will be to practice those target sounds hundreds (sometimes even thousands) of times per week, reinforcing the muscle memory needed for clear and confident speech.

Proudly Serving the Richmond Metropolitan Area
This is what my students wanted to know
before signing up with me
Where are you located in Richmond?
While I’m not physically based in Richmond, all of my sessions are conducted 100% online—so you can join from anywhere in the city or surrounding areas.
Whether you’re working from home in Short Pump, attending meetings downtown, or commuting from Chesterfield or Henrico, you’ll receive the same level of personalized support and real-time feedback as you would in an in-person class. Many of my clients actually prefer the flexibility that online sessions provide—they can train from their office, living room, or even while traveling for work.
Who are your accent reduction classes meant for?
This program is designed specifically for non-native English-speaking professionals who are already fluent or near-fluent in English, but want to speak more clearly and confidently.
Many of my students work in fields like healthcare, law, government, education, and tech—industries where precision and clarity matter. Some are preparing for presentations, others are navigating job interviews, and some are simply tired of being asked to repeat themselves in everyday interactions. If you feel like your accent sometimes overshadows your ideas, or creates unnecessary barriers in professional or social settings, this coaching might be a good option for you.
How long does it take to change your accent?
This is one of the most common questions I get—and the truth is, it depends. Every student’s speech habits and goals are different.
That said, most clients follow a 12-week plan, focusing on the 8–12 specific sounds that impact their clarity the most. You’ll likely notice a shift in awareness within the first couple of sessions—meaning, you’ll start to hear and understand your own patterns. From there, changes in your actual speech tend to come steadily, especially with consistent daily practice.
Remember: accent change is less about “quick fixes” and more about training new habits, like learning a musical instrument or a sport. The more focused and repetitive your practice, the faster you’ll progress.Do I need to have a strong accent to benefit from this program?
Not at all. In fact, many of my students already speak very well—they just want to sound a little more polished, natural, or easy to understand.
Some clients come to me after being told they’re “hard to follow” on conference calls or that their presentation “wasn’t clear.” Others want to work on specific sounds like the American “r,” “th,” or vowel shifts like “ship vs. sheep.”
Whether your accent is heavy or mild, we’ll zero in on the sounds and patterns that matter most for your clarity and confidence. Will online accent coaching be as effective as meeting in person?
Yes, absolutely—and in many cases, it’s even better.
Through Zoom, I can observe your mouth movements closely, record sample exercises for playback, share on-screen materials in real time, and send you tailored practice recordings right after our session.
Plus, many students find it easier to stay consistent when they don’t have to worry about traffic, commuting, or awkward class schedules. As long as you have a quiet space and decent internet, you’ll get the full benefit of coaching from anywhere in Richmond—or beyond.Do I need any special tools or equipment to get started?
No specialized equipment is needed. All you really need is:
-
A quiet space where you can focus and speak aloud
-
A computer, laptop, tablet, or even a phone with video
-
A stable internet connection
If you have a microphone or headphones, that’s great—it can help with audio clarity during sessions and while reviewing recordings. But if not, the built-in mic on your device will work just fine to start.
-
How do I keep my progress going after the coaching ends?
At the end of your 12-week program, you’ll receive a personalized ongoing practice plan based on the improvements you’ve made and any remaining sound patterns you want to reinforce.
You’ll also have access to your coaching recordings (if you choose to have sessions recorded), audio tools for daily practice, and strategies you can apply on your own in real-world conversations.
Many clients feel empowered to continue independently, while others choose to book occasional follow-up sessions for accountability or deeper work on advanced sounds. It’s flexible and totally up to you.How much does it cost for Richmond clients?
